The Marondera Urban Business Association (MUBA) is demanding answers from the Municipality of Marondera on the whereabouts of a refuse truck purchased few years ago and is yet to be delivered.
Last year, the group walked out of a budget consultative meeting accusing council of not providing answers to a number of queries among them the ‘disappearance of a refuse truck at the border’.
MUBA Vice Chairperson Carlos Pindirire said they were told by the previous council of the purchased truck and that they are yet to set their eyes on it years after.
“The truck has been promised, it belongs to council and it hasn’t reached this town. I am basically saying the truck was sourced by council coffers yet up to now it hasn’t reached Marondera.
“Where is it? The (then) Mayor Anthony Makwindi in the council chambers clearly outlined that the deal was finalised and they were just waiting for its delivery. So we are still waiting since 2018,” he said.
The Anthony Makwindi led council was at the helm of the local authority between 2013 and 2018 and consisted on nine Zanu PF councillors with the MDC having three.
Efforts to get a comment from Makwindi on his mobile number were fruitless.
Marondera Deputy Mayor Bornface Tagwirei who was also part of the Makwindi council team said there is nothing like a disappeared truck.
“Those are lies, there is nothing like that,” he said.
MUBA has been accusing council of unilaterally operating the local authority thereby becoming not transparent and unaccountable.
