MARONDERA– Thirty four (34) people in Marondera are under monitoring as a precautionary measure as officials seek to tighten monitoring systems against the Coronavirus pandemic.
This was disclosed by the Provincial Medical Director (PMD) for Mashonaland East, Dr Simukai Zizhou (pictured) whilst presenting a report to the heads of government departments and ministries in Marondera yesterday on the province’s state of preparedness in the face of Coronavirus.
Dr Zizhou said that the entire province has 56 such cases which are being monitored, with Marondera town topping the list with 34 people.
He was however, quick to point out that these are not confirmed cases, but are just precautionary measures being taken to avoid the spread of the disease.
“Please get me very clearly here, there is no single case of Coronavirus both in Marondera town and the entire provinces. These cases I am referring to are those of people who have moved in from affected places, and as a ministry we saw it prudent to monitor these people,” said Dr Zizhou.
He also challenged the local authority to ensure that clean, safe water is easily accessible to residents to curb the spread of the disease.
He suggested that all dysfunctional boreholes are attended to as a matter of urgency before disaster strikes.
Dr Zizhou also indicated that they are now in the process of erecting some structures to work as isolation centres in Chivhu, Murehwa, Mudzi and Marondera with Mudzi and Marondera structures now at different stages of development.
Speaking at the same meeting, the Minister of State for Mashonaland East Province, Apolonia Munzverengwi directed the Public Works Department to expeditiously repair all the boreholes in the town.
“I want to see all the boreholes in Marondera repaired as soon as possible. Very soon I will be engaging Marondera Municipality to ensure that they join hands with you (the Public Works Department) to ensure that this work is done,” said Munzverengwi.
