MARONDERA-Marondera Municipality has resolved to reposes all its beer outlets that are being leased to individuals as most of the tenants are failing to pay their rentals to the local authority.
This information, also confirmed by Marondera Municipality Mayor, Cllr Chengetai Murowa, is contained in the recent Full Council meeting minutes.
The Chairman of Health, Housing and Community Services, Cllr Size Vilela raised the issue in the meeting which prompted Cllr Misheck Manyere to question the motive behind such a recommendation.
“Councillor Vilela said they discussed the issue in the committee and they also discovered that some tenants were subletting and some tenants were not paying what they owe council.
The rate of vandalism was very high, and there were no refurbishments,” said the minutes.
When contacted for comment, Marondera Mayor, Cllr Chengetai Murowa confirmed the development, saying that by June they would have repossessed all their beer outlets in Marondera.
“It is true that we are indeed recalling all our beer outlets from our tenants so that they can be used for other purposes that brings revenue to council.
This comes after the realization that our tenants were not paying anything to council, which is contrary to our contract,” said the Mayor.
He said that as council they have also resolved not to renew all the tenants’ liquor licenses in preparation for the takeover.
