The MDC-T has expelled five Marondera councillors including Mayor Chengetai Murowa for allegedly being aligned to the Nelson Chamisa-led MDC-Alliance.
Total of 5 Councilors Recalled
Apart from Murowa, the other councillors who were fired include Size Vilela (ward 11), Charles Ngwena (ward 4), Wonder Siriya (ward 6) and Misheck Manyere (ward 5).
In his letter dated September 11 and addressed to Marondera Town Clerk , Local Government Minister July Moyo said the five wards are now vacant.
“I wish to inform you that I am in receipt of a letter from the Movement for Democratic Change (T) stating that the following councillors have been expelled from the party.
“These are Size Vilela (11), Charles Ngwena ( 4), Wonder Siriya (6) and Misheck Manyere ( 5) and Chengetai Murova (1).
“In terms of Section 278 (1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe as read with Section 129 (1)(k), wards 11, 4, 6,1and 5 are now vacant,” read the letter.
Murowa was recently fired by his own party the MDC-A accusing him of double dipping and leaking party information to security agents.
He was however later cleared with his party saying the suspension was null and void.
Khupe this week also expelled more than 10 Harare councillors with more Chamisa loyalists expected to face the chop in the coming days.
The Municipality of Marondera had eleven MDC A Councilors out of a total of twelve councillors.
