The Municipality of Marondera voted for a new Mayor, Simbarashe Nyahuye, who took over from Chengetai Murowa was recalled by the MDC-T.

10 things about Mayor Nyahuye
1-Nyahuye was elected as a Ward 2 (Dombotombo) Councillor during the 2018 elections under the MDC-Alliance ticket. He however joined the Thokozani Khupe MDC-T after the Supreme Court judgement.
2- Nyahuye is a Welder who operates from his yard and his loyalists describe him as a machinist. The politician is also a qualified tailor.
3-He is a soccer player and fanatic having played for Proton Stars. Currently he sponsors his own social soccer team known as Redswim FC.
4-He was born on December 13, 1969 in an area popularly known as Gumbonzvanda or Dendenyore in Wedza District.
5- Nyahuye joined the then Morgan Tsvangirayi led MDC in 1999 as Secretary for Information and Publicity for Dendenyore branch.
6- He moved to Marondera Urban where he became the MDC Deputy Chairperson in Ward 2 before becoming the substantive Chairperson for the same Ward in 2008, a position which he holds up to date.
7- During the 2008 political violence era, Nyahuye was barred from setting his foot in Dendenyore, his home area resulting in him being confined to the urban areas.
8- Nyahuye was ostracised by fellow Councillors a few months ago after he attended a meeting that was addressed by MDC-T Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora at the provincial party offices. He automatically joined the Khupe faction.
9- Nyahuye is set to appear in court over pending assault charges after he allegedly clashed with recalled Ward 4 Councillor Charles Ngwena. He has since pleaded not guilty to the charges though Ngwena claims that he slapped him and broke his phone during the assault.
10- The new mayor is also known by the nickname Chief Svosve-derived from his family being linked to the Svosve clan in Wedza.
