The Municipality of Marondera last month released some of the Ruzawi stands (opposite Marondera Provincial showgrounds) beneficiaries who are struggling to pay deposit money despite having been approved by the selection committee early this year.
The beneficiaries were selected after some interviews as well as convincing council that they had money in their bank accounts.
However, a recent internal audit opened a can of worms as to who benefitted from the land sales with most of the beneficiaries, among them top politicians from both Zanu PF and MDC parties failing to pay the stands deposits in full.
Among the beneficiaries are four staff members while the audit also revealed that some of the residential stands are reserved for directors.
Marondera town has more than 15 000 home-seekers on its housing waiting list.
The selection committee has however come under fire from both residents and other councillors after council reportedly failed to collect the money from beneficiaries since February which has since been eroded by hyperinflation.
Open Council Marondera is in possession of the latest full council minutes which contains a list of 16 beneficiaries who had failed to pay their deposit money in full as of May 8, 2020 with council threatening to repossess the stands.
Below is a snapshot of the list as extracted from the June 4, 2020 full council minutes and report.
