MDC-T has received multiple applications by people intending to contest for seats in Marondera council.
Together with Harare, the area is the only other town where the party has multiple candidates.
Elsewhere MDC-T has struggled or even failed to get candidates.
Under Mash East, Marondera has a total of 16 candidates with Hwedza only having one for the MDC-T.
The 16 candidates are seeking to contest for the vacant 6 seats in Marondera Council.
Ward 1 has only one candidate, Warren Magwaza.
Ward 3 has Munyaradzi Zingoni, Obey Mazhata, Jeremiah Dunga and Teddy Duwati.
In Ward 4 there is Farai Makwara, Tito Pearson, Phillip Tawanda Makonise and John Jukwa.
Charles Chanakira and Peter Nyadembera are contesting to represent the party in Ward 5
Chamunorwa Ruswa and Richman Kanongwe are slugging it out to stand in Ward 6
In Ward 11 there is Felix Muzambi, Devine Paradza and Ali Nyoni.
Six councillors from MDC Alliance were recalled from Marondera council by Mwonzora’s MDC-T
These included Mayor Chengetai Murowa, Size Vilela (ward 11), Charles Ngwena (ward 4), Wonder Siriya (ward 6) and Misheck Manyere (ward 5).
Lack of Supporters
The situation in Marondera is so unlike in other areas where the party has failed to get candidates.
Most notable is in Matabeleland and Midlands where the MDC-T has many areas where no one is willing to represent it.
The trend is the same in Mash West where most of the Wards have only a single candidate for each area.
MDC Alliance Vice President Prof has said the Mwonzora party simply lacks followers.
“The people are very clear.
“In fact, wherever we go people are anxious, they want this election tomorrow so they can speak and reaffirm who they support in this country and who they want to be leaders.”
‘If we use our symbol, which is an open palm hand with Chamisa’s face, let Mwonzora dare put his face there as well.
“There will be no confusion.
“Put the face of Chamisa and the face of the state-sponsored opposition, people will vote accordingly, he said.”
However the MDC-T has been adamant that it has enough followers to get a victory in the elections.
